The Current Status of iOS 11 Jailbreak

The last few days have been exciting for jailbreakers. It has been a long wait. The lack of any jailbreak news even got some news outlets to be bold enough to call it the death of jailbreaking.

If you have missed all the jailbreak news, then here’s a quick recap so you are up to speed about the recent developments.

iOS 11 – iOS 11.1.2 Jailbreak Released
Hacker and developer, Jonathan Levin has released the LiberiOS jailbreak, the first jailbreak for iOS 11, iPhone X and iPhone 8/iPhone 8 Plus.

LiberOS supports the following iOS 11 versions:
iOS 11, iOS 11.0.1, iOS 11.0.2, iOS 11.0.3
iOS 11.1, iOS 11.1.1, iOS 11.1.2
It does not support the following iOS 11 versions:
iOS 11.2, iOS 11.2.1
It supports all iOS 11 compatible iOS devices:
iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 5s
12.9-inch iPad Pro, 2nd generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, 1st generation 10.5-inch iPad Pro, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad
5th generation, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2
iPod touch 6G
The jailbreak is fairly stable. The only issue we have heard is it failing on some non iOS 11.1.2 devices due to missing offsets. Levin is already aware of the issue and here’s how you can help if you’re faced the issue.

How to Jailbreak iOS 11 – iOS 11.1.2 Using Liberia in 5 Easy Steps
Cydia and Jailbreak Tweaks Not Working
Cydia is not compatible with iOS 11, which means that it you need to install the jailbreak apps and tweaks manually after successfully jailbreaking your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using LiberiOS jailbreak. But since Cydia Substrate is also not compatible with iOS 11, most jailbreak tweaks won’t work. We have heard only of a handful jailbreak tweaks like Filza File manager that will work.

saurik has said that he is working on Cydia for iOS 11, but he has also mentioned that he is working with people from past jailbreaks, so we’re not sure if he will release Cydia now, or will include it as part of another iOS 11 jailbreak.

Installer 5: Cydia Alternative May be Released Soon
Infini Dev has announced that they plan to release Installer 5, a jailbreak tweaks store, an alternative to Cydia soon. It will be available for iOS 11 and iOS 11.

CoolStar Demonstrates Code Injection on iOS 11
Coolstar has demonstrated code injection on iOS 11. But it would be too early to talk about a Cydia Substrate alternative.

iOS 11.2.1 Jailbreak
It is great to finally have an iOS 11 jailbreak, but it would be ideal if a jailbreak for iOS 11.2.1, the latest iOS version, is available, since we cannot downgrade to iOS 11.1.2 as Apple has stopped signing the firmware file.

The good news is that security researchers at Alibaba’s Pandora Labs have been able to jailbreak iOS 11.2.1 as well as iOS 11.2 on iPhone X. But they have said that they don’t plan to release a jailbreak. So it remains to be seen if someone from the jailbreak community can discover the vulnerabilities to develop the jailbreak for iOS 11.2.1, the latest version of iOS currently.

So if you missed out on all the jailbreak news, this is a quick update on the current status of the iOS 11 jailbreak. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and RSS for the latest jailbreak news.
